Copyright and Fair Use
Copyright and Fair Use are two extremely important topics in the realm of education and educational technology. Copyright is an intellectual property that belongs to an individual and protects an individual's original works of authorship. However, fair use is the doctrine that allows brief excerpts of copyright material may, under certain circumstances be utilized without the need for permission from the copyright holder. As a teacher/educator, these are matters I would deal with very seriously. At the earliest instance, I would introduce my students and familiarize them with the verbiage of copyright and fair use, right down to the legal language, introducing them to the nuances and complexities of the concepts. Armed with the proper knowledge and understanding, my students will be able to safely obey the laws and enhance their own learning with information and material found in digital formats that's the intellectual property of someone else.
Technology Implementation Issues
Academic Dishonesty is a huge topic, but it is something as teachers that we need to be prepared to deal with if the situation presents itself. A viable solution for academic dishonesty is to review a class syllabus with students well in advance and make your expectations clear. This can be done in a variety of ways. Another solution is to encourage students to utilize on-campus resources and seek out the proper help if needed. Before divulging academic dishonesty, it is best to seek the necessary resources for support, if it is needed.
Lack of funding is another massive topic within the realm of technology implementation. Many school districts are falling behind major trends in modern education because they lack the budget to afford the newer, modern technology that is used nowadays to educate children. A viable solution for lack of funding would be fundraising, philanthropic gifts, and perhaps partnerships between neighboring school districts.
New Skills
The new skills that I acquired from the Newsletter assignment will be very beneficial for me with a prospective future in education. In hindsight, I could have been more creative and more delicate with my overall design of the Newsletter. These skills could be beneficial in a future career for being creatively informative.
